VALPARAISO | Two men were arrested Tuesday morning after police said the pair broke into a BP gas station and took cigarettes.
Brandon Deardurff, 23, and Brian Suckey, 27, both of Valparaiso, were arrested and charged with burglary, receiving stolen property and criminal mischief.
Police responded to the station at 1501 Calumet Ave. at 12:12 a.m. Tuesday for a burglary alarm.
Officers Phil Rochon, Robert Fisher and Michael Cairns arrived within minutes and found the glass door had been shattered.
The owner of the station arrived and, along with police, viewed surveillance video.
The video showed two men breaking the glass door with a large rock, then taking cigarettes from the business.
Police said the owner recognized one of the men as a former customer and knew his first name. Police continued to investigate and learned his full name and address.
Police were granted a search warrant for the man's home in the 300 block of Northview Drive. Inside, police said they found the Deardurff and Suckey, clothing that matched the description of the two men observed on the surveillance video and 63 packs of cigarettes.
