VALPARAISO | The Valparaiso Police Department will be participating in the 30th annual National Night Out from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

National Night Out is a national event designed to unite community members and police against neighborhood crimes.

This is a night for community members, neighborhoods and crime watch groups to organize special activities in their neighborhoods. Valparaiso police officers will be visiting the special activities planned in each neighborhood to show their support.

Officers from the canine team, bicycle unit, patrol division and detective division will be present in neighborhoods to show their support.

Those interested in planning activities should notify the police department of the plans. In previous years neighborhoods have had cook outs, ice cream socials and live music.

For more information, questions or to notify the police department of planned participation, call Sgt. Michael Grennes at (219) 462-2135, ext. 2313 or email at
