VALPARAISO | Northwest Indiana residents are invited to enjoy free music and fireworks Friday at the Porter County Fairgrounds.
Walter J. Alvarez, a Crown Point attorney, said he and his brother, Mario Alvarez, are sponsoring the event taking place at the fairgrounds, 215 Division Road.
Walter Alvarez said the gates will open 6 p.m. Friday. There will be food booths and entertainment provided by the Titus Rodes Band and High Noon, a country band.
The fireworks are expected to begin about 9 p.m.
Alvarez said the event and parking are free, but donations will be taken for the benefit of the Valparaiso-based Family House and the Porter County Animal Shelter.
The Family House Inc., established in 1981, provides a safe home-like environment where non-custodial parents can spend time with their children under supervision as well as helping parents struggling with poverty, addictions, legal or psychological problems or custody and visitation issues in cases of divorce.
The animal shelter offers cats and dogs for adoptions as well as low-cost spay and neuter options.
Alvarez said he and his brother "hope this evening of entertainment will not only benefit these two wonderful charities, but also emphasize all that is good in America and remind spectators of the importance of true American family values."
