Valpo fire officials investigating strange odor

VALPARAISO | Valparaiso firefighters are investigating a strange odor hanging over Valparaiso and surrounding areas.

Valparaiso Fire Chief Dave Nondorf said just before 2:30 p.m. that his department has units "all over the place" trying to track down the source of the odor.

Those reporting the odor say it smells like burning rubber or asphalt or another chemical scent.

Readers throughout Lake and Porter counties have posted on The Times' Facebook page that they are detecting the foul odor.
