VALPARAISO | United Way of Porter County will host its fourth annual Valparaiso half marathon in November, with all race proceeds going to UWPC’s Power of Youth Council.
More than 1,000 race participants and 100 volunteers from Valparaiso, Northwest Indiana and neighboring states are expected to attend this year’s race.
The race begins at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 10 at the UWPC office. Runners will receive a long-sleeve technical running shirt and a finisher’s medal.
All participants are invited to attend the tented post-race festival with music and food. The race also features a flat, fast course, computerized chip timing, split times at every mile and water stations.
Runners can register for the half marathon online through 4 p.m. Nov. 9. Registration costs $45 through Oct. 1, $50 from Oct. 2 to Nov. 9, and $55 on the day of the race.
The Power of Youth Council, a United Way initiative, is composed of Porter County high school students who encourage youths to become leaders, make an impact and recognize the importance of youth involvement in the community.
The student-led program holds fundraisers that benefit United Way-supported youth self-esteem programs throughout Porter County. It offers students the opportunity to be advocates on issues that affect teens, participate in community service projects, build leadership skills and network with other high school students in the community.
