VALPARAISO | The strong smell of marijuana at an apartment complex led to the arrest Wednesday of a Valparaiso man on several drug-related charges.
Benjamin Hosfeld, 24, 400 N. Sturdy Road, Apt. A6, was charged with dealing marijuana, possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and maintaining a common nuisance.
Police were called to the the apartment complex about 8:30 p.m. and officers could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from the second floor. Officers used a police dog to pinpoint the source. The dog, named Geist, led officers to Hosfeld's unit.
According to police, Hosfeld told police he was smoking marijuana inside the apartment and agreed to allow officers to search his apartment.
Police said they found 359 grams of marijuana, 21 glass smoking devices, two wooden smoking devices, numerous pills, digital scales and more than $700 in cash.
Hosfeld was taken to Porter County Jail.
