VALPARAISO | The city's Parks Department is doing a regional search for someone who "has a passion for numbers and finance" to fill the position of business operations director.
Parks Director John Seibert said the position became vacant with the departure Oct. 18 of Christy Graf after just two years with the department. Graf left to work in the institutional development office at Valparaiso University.
"She did a great job for us in all she got involved in," Seibert said. "Despite her short time here, even if I had known that would happen, I would have hired her. She left the position better than she found it."
The regional search was launched after an internal search failed to reveal a qualified candidate. Seibert said the applicants should be persons "with a connection to our mission but also a business perspective to put fresh eyes on what we do from that perspective."
The person must be able to work with marketing and development in conjunction with the Park Foundation as well as "gathering and creating data and evaluating it to put it into an understandable form for the public, the board and the staff so we can make the best decisions."
He hopes to begin interviews by the end of November and fill the position by the end of the year.
