VALPARAISO | A masked man carrying a handgun broke into a home in the 2250 block of Walker Drive early Friday morning and confined the residents before making off with an unknown amount of money and jewelry, police said.

The man entered the home through an open garage door at 4:30 a.m. and police said they were notified at 6:10 a.m.

The man was described by police as white, under 6 feet in height and was wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt, jeans and black work boots.

Anyone who saw any suspicious behavior in the area during this time period is asked to contact the police department at (219) 462-2135.
