MUNCIE | Andrew J. Miles of Valparaiso High School was awarded the Whitinger Scholarship from Ball State University starting this fall.
The Whitinger Scholarship is the signature scholarship of the Ball State University Honors College and is the most prestigious scholarship awarded by the university.
Established in 1976 in honor of Ralph Whitinger, the scholarship features academic programs, social activities, and special opportunities as well as the funds for the scholarship itself.
According to the university, the Whitinger Scholars Program admits 10 unusually talented students each year, who each receive full tuition, mandatory fees, and room and board for a total of eight semesters.
Scholarship recipients have competed through written essays and personal interviews, and are selected by a faculty committee based on their academic ability, character, creativity, and potential for personal growth and leadership
