ATLANTA | The student cheering section at Valparaiso University's men's basketball games has advanced to the semifinal round of the Naismith Student Section of the Year Award.

The Crusader fans are among 16 student sections from around the country to seek the coveted award.

Beginning with 158 participating institutions, the contest now enters the semifinal round. As one of the top college basketball student sections in the country, VU students are asking for fan support to help win this year's national title.

Crusader fans can vote now through Feb. 22 for their student section by logging onto

The eight institutions with the highest number of votes will advance to the final round and will placed before the Naismith Board of Selectors for the final selection. The winning school will be announced March 8.

The winning student section gets bragging rights, while their school will receive $10,000 for its general scholarship fund.
