PORTER COUNTY | The Wings of Freedom tour is bringing a rare bomber and fighter aircraft as part of its 110-city nationwide tour.
Participating in the tour are the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress "Nine O Nine" WWII Heavy Bomber, consolidated B-24 Liberator "Witchcraft" WWII Heavy Bomber and P-51 Mustang fighter. They will fly into Porter County Regional Airport July 29 through July 31. Visitors can explore the aircraft inside and out for $12 for adults and $6 for ages 11 and younger. WWII veterans can tour at no cost.
Visitors can also take a 30-minute flight aboard one of the rare aircraft , the B-17 or B-24 for $425 per person. The P-51 flights are $2,200 for a half hour and $3,200 for a full hour.
The tour will arrive at noon Monday and will be on display at the main terminal ramp at the airport until it leaves at noon Wednesday. Hours of tours and display are noon to 5 p.m. on Monday; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday and 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesday. The 30-miniute flights are scheduled before and after the tour times.
