VALPARAISO | Tara Tryon, 23, of Valparaiso, entered guilty pleas Friday morning on two of seven charges she faced for molesting a young boy and sending photographs to her now ex-boyfriend.
Tryon pleaded guilty to one count of child molestation, a Class B felony and one count of child exploitation, a Class C felony. The remaining counts were dismissed.
The plea agreement, if accepted by Porter Superior Court Judge William Alexa, calls for Tryon to spend 10 years in prison for the child molestation charge and eight years for the child exploitation charge, with the two terms to be served concurrently. She also will receive no time suspended from those terms.
Judge Pro Temp Dan Berning explained the plea agreement to Tryon, which also will require her to register as a sex offender, pay certain fees and restitution, the amount to be determined at a later date.
As part of the agreement, Tryon was questioned by her attorney, Bob Harper, and admitted to committing the acts at a Chesterton home and sending the photographs of the acts to others.
Tryon molested a then-2-year-old boy in his Chesterton home beginning in April 2010 while she was babysitting for the boy. She then sent photographs of the acts to her then boyfriend Ryan Schroeder, 27, of Center Township, who was in the U.S. Navy at the time.
Schroeder was sentenced to 54 years in prison in February after being found guilty on 23 felony counts, ranging from aiding child molestation to possession of child pornography.
