Swim, gymnastics lessons
Sign up to learn new skills, meet new friends and have fun this winter. Progressive swim lessons for all ages. Progress gymnastics lessons begin at age 3. See website for schedules.

Teen Fitness Class
A four-week Teen Fitness Class for kids ages 12 to 14 is offered. Class participants learn how to properly use the equipment in the Portage Y’s cardio and cybex machine rooms, basic anatomy and physiology, proper stretching techniques, nutrition guidelines and more. Graduates of the class will then be allowed to use the YMCA equipment on their own. Classes begin at the start of each month, so check the website. All members must be at least 14 years of age or be at least 12 years old and have passed the YMCA Teen Fitness Class to use the YMCA equipment.

Parents Night Out
Parents can use the Parents Night Out program and stop worrying about finding a sitter, from 6 to 9:30 p.m. every Friday. Trained YMCA staff have organized and fun activities planned to keep each child’s attention. The cost for members is $10 for the first child and $5 for each additional child. The nonmember rate is $20 for the first child and $10 for each additional child.
Free SAT practice test
Fully proctored practice tests will show students what to expect in a test-like environment. Students will receive comprehensive analysis of their performance on practice test detailing individual strengths and weaknesses. SAT practice test is noon to 5 p.m. April 13. Easter egg hunt
The Duneland YMCA and Chasing Dreams are hosting an Easter Egg Hunt for individuals with Special Needs, their families, their friends and the community. The event is open to all ages, and will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. April 6 at the Y. Participants should bring their own basket to participate in the hunt. In addition to the egg hunt, games and photos will be available. Chasing Dreams is an organization with the vision that a community can exist where individuals with special needs are valued, respected and included. On Friday, the Community Wellness Nurse will be conducting bood pressure, blood sugar and body mass index screenings from 8:30 to 11 a.m.

Ringing in Spring race
Ringing in Spring is April 5. Organized by longtime local runners and the Valparaiso Family YMCA, the Ringing in Spring 5K and 10K race is a Gold Cup, CARA Green Certified Race, has disposable chip timing, moisture-wicking shirts, personalized race bibs, free child care and gear check. Valpo Skates is at 605 Campbell St. in Valparaiso in the Ben Franklin Middle School gym annex. Kindergartners through sixth-graders can skate from 6 to 9 p.m. Fridays. Family Skate is open from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturdays (all ages). The cost is $6 per skater.
LIVESTRONG at the YMCA
LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is a 12-week program for adult cancer survivors and is offered free at the Valparaiso Family YMCA. It is open to Y members and residents. Program focus includes improving cardiovascular endurance, muscle strength, flexibility, balance, stress management and confidence. Summer Camp registration is now open. Camp is structured by a daily schedule which provides focused activities developed from weekly themes. Camp activities will be held outdoors on YMCA grounds in our pavilion. The YMCA facility includes a playground, youth wellness room, swimming pool, and gym. Healthy Kids Day is 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 16. This is a special day of fun activities meant to help build on the incredible potential inside each and every child. This event is free to Y members and the community.

Eat well, Sleep well, Live well. Nutrition for Life is brought to you by our Healthcare partner, Methodist Hospitals. Registered Dietician/Nutritionist Kristina Greene MS, RDN, CD will lead this program of nutritional counseling for members and the community in a Family, Group or Personal setting.
