Open preschool registration
Preschool registration for fall is open to the public. Register early to receive a spot. Financial assistance scholarships are available to those who qualify.
Child care, development
There are openings in the child care rooms for 2-year-olds. Enroll a two-year-old for the first three weeks, and the fourth week is free. Ask for a tour by calling Abbie Prasco at (219) 792-9622.
All full-time college students with schedule or current college ID will receive a single primary plus membership for $31 a month with no joiner fee. Membership must be purchased by July 31.
No Bummer Summer Camp
No Bummer Summer Camp continues 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Aug. 16. Before and after camp hours are also available for working parents from as early as 6:30 am to as late as 6 p.m. Free specialty clinics three days a week. Sports of all sorts, Swimmies, Crafty Corner and No Bake Chef.
The Y's summer special is available: purchase 4 weeks - $40, 6 weeks - $60, 8 weeks - $80, 10 weeks - $100 or 12 weeks - $120 with no joiner fee.
Jump off the beam, flip over the bars, follow your dreams, and reach for the stars. As part of the Y’s focus on Youth Development the Y offers gymnastic for ages 2 through their spectacular “Sparklers” gymnastics team.
Free fitness in the park
The Y has partnered with the Portage Parks to offer free fun fitness classes at 10 a.m. every Saturday in July: Total tone Saturday at Gilbert Memorial Park; book camp July 20 at Woodland Park; Yoga on the beach, July 27, Lakefront Park.
Free walk this way
The YMCA in conjunction with the City of Portage is now offering a walking club. This club will walk every Tuesday. This community club does not require a membership to the YMCA. Interested walkers/runners can meet in the YMCA lobby at 9:45 a.m. The “Rails to Trails” will be utilized for this program. During inclement weather, the YMCA track will be used. Membership not needed.
Free Running Club
Free Community Running Club is for amateur runners who will meet in the YMCA lobby every Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. Membership not needed. Dress for the weather. All 1 hour runs will be outside unless it is lightening or below 15 degrees. Participants will be running 3-5 miles with calisthenics and stretching. Must be 14 and up to participate. Fun Zone is only available to YMCA Members.
Thursday night volleyball free for Y-members 14 and older from 7 to 9 p.m. Non-Members pay $10. Advanced Court and recreational court available. Parent or guardian must sign in participant.

5K Run/Walk Training Program
Registration open for the "From the Couch to the Emerald City" 5K training program designed for novice participants that will be held July 20 to Sept. 14. Participants will meet for weekly training sessions and the completion of the program is to run the Duneland Y’s Emerald City Hustle 5K on Sept. 14. Parent's Night Out
Every Friday night from 6 to 9:30 p.m., Parents can utilize the Parent’s Night Out program and stop worrying about finding a sitter. Trained YMCA staff have organized and fun activities planned to keep each child’s attention. From arts and crafts to gym time it is never a dull moment on Friday evenings at the Y. Not to mention, it is affordable! The cost for members is $10 for the first child & $5 for each additional child. The non-member rate is $20 for the first child & $10 for each additional child. Reservations must be made by Thursday of each week.
Summer Camp is open for students in the first through 12th grades. Kids will enjoy a summer full of nature, water fun, games, field trips (Dunes National Lakeshore, Railcats, & Fair Oaks), crafts, and new friendships.
Swim Lesson Registration
Swim Lesson Registration is now open. Swimming is a valuable life skill for children at all ages. Every day, children learn the basics of swimming at the Y or enhance their skills with our progressive lessons that turn beginners into experts, polliwogs into sharks. And our kids are having fun, being healthy, learning safety and building confidence all at the same time! Session dates for children 6 month and up include July 22-Aug. 2, and Aug. 5-16. Bone density screenings
A Porter Regional Hospital Wellness Nurse will be providing a free Bone Density screening 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday and on Aug. 7.

First Tee Golf
Youth learn about the game of golf and life lessons. Program is designed for 7 to 14-year-olds. Session runs from noon until 2 p.m. Monday through July 19. The cost is $95 for Y members and $110 for residents. Please see the Y Courtesy Desk to register.

Get ready for some golf on July 25 at the Valparaiso Country Club. This year marks the Valparaiso Family YMCA’s 23rd annual golf outing. Registration and lunch is at 11 a.m with a shotgun start at noon. The cost is $125 per golfer or $500 per team. Funds raised provide affordable sports programs for all kids to learn, grow and thrive.
Classes are from 4:55 to 5:25 p.m. and 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. This class is for 3- to 11-year-olds and provides activities for children with special needs. The cost is $20 for both Members and Community.
YMCA Summer Camp
Sign up for the whole summer or sign-up on a weekly basis. Y Summer Camp is for kids ages 3-years-old to kids entering seventh grade.
2-Week Swim Lessons
Take advantage of the Y’s two-week swim lessons. Instruction is available for kids three through 14-years-old and is offered Monday-Friday. Weeks available: July 22-Aug. 2, Aug. 5-16.
Obstacle Course Fundraiser
Children ages four-to-10 are invited to participate in a fun obstacle course fundraiser on Aug. 3at the Neal Hannon Farm located at 307 S. County Road 100 West in Valparaiso. All proceeds will benefit the Special Olympics. Y Members and community are welcome. Registration begins Friday and is available at the Y Courtesy Desk prior to Aug. 3, for $20. Race-day registration is $25 at the event. The race begins at 11 a.m. Goody bags and refreshments will be given to all race participants.
Bone, back and neck pain seminar
Learn about overall bone health and the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. Identify your back and neck pain and learn about the most effective treatments available. This free seminar is open to Y members and community, and will be presented by Kristy Darnell, RN, MSN, FNP-BC, CNRN Methodist Hospitals Spine Care Center Manager. The Seminar will be held in the Y Community Room. Seating is limited.
