Parents Night Out

Parents can use the Parents Night Out program and stop worrying about finding a sitter, from 6 to 9:30 p.m. every Friday. Trained YMCA staff have organized and fun activities planned to keep each child’s attention. The cost for members is $10 for the first child and $5 for each additional child. The nonmember rate is $20 for the first child and $10 for each additional child.

Free SAT practice test

Fully proctored practice tests will show students what to expect in a test-like environment. Students will receive comprehensive analysis of their performance on practice test detailing individual strengths and weaknesses. SAT practice test is noon to 5 p.m. April 13. Easter egg hunt

The Duneland YMCA and Chasing Dreams are hosting an Easter Egg Hunt for individuals with Special Needs, their families, their friends and the community. The event is open to all ages, and will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Y. Participants should bring their own basket to participate in the hunt. In addition to the egg hunt, games and photos will be available. Chasing Dreams is an organization with the vision that a community can exist where individuals with special needs are valued, respected and included. Ringing in Spring race

Ringing in Spring is Saturday. Organized by longtime local runners and the Valparaiso Family YMCA, the Ringing in Spring 5K and 10K race is a Gold Cup, CARA Green Certified Race, has disposable chip timing, moisture-wicking shirts, personalized race bibs, free child care and gear check. Volunteers are needed from 7 to 11 a.m. that day.

Valpo Skates

Valpo Skates is at 605 Campbell St. in Valparaiso in the Ben Franklin Middle School gym annex. Kindergartners through sixth-graders can skate from 6 to 9 p.m. Fridays. Family Skate is open from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturdays (all ages). The cost is $6 per skater.

LIVESTRONG at the YMCA

LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is a 12-week program for adult cancer survivors and is offered free at the Valparaiso Family YMCA. It is open to Y members and residents. Program focus includes improving cardiovascular endurance, muscle strength, flexibility, balance, stress management and confidence. Summer camp

Summer Camp registration is now open. Camp is structured by a daily schedule which provides focused activities developed from weekly themes. Camp activities will be held outdoors on YMCA grounds in our pavilion. The YMCA facility includes a playground, youth wellness room, swimming pool, and gym. Healthy Kids Day

Healthy Kids Day is 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 16. This is a special day of fun activities meant to help build on the incredible potential inside each and every child. This event is free to Y members and the community.

Swim, gymnastics lessons

Sign up to learn new skills, meet new friends and have fun this winter. Progressive swim lessons for all ages. Progress gymnastics lessons begin at age 3. See website for schedules.

“Try the Y” Membership Drive

The Portage Township YMCA invites everyone to try the Y during the week of April 12-19. Just like Y Members, individuals and families may go to the Y whenever and as often as they’d like. Participants may take group exercise classes, play an open sport in the evenings, walk or run on the Indoor Track, and more. Adults are encouraged to get their training started in the Cardio and Strength Training Centers, which are open during all business hours. In addition to taking advantage of the normal activities, themed programs each day target different people’s needs. A schedule of programs, including group exercise classes, can be found on the website. Families and individuals who join the Y from April 12-30 will receive discount coupons to help them try even more of the Y’s programs. With a combined value of more than $200, coupons include youth and adult sports, swim lessons, personal training, aquacise, summer camp, personal massages, and more.

Healthy Kids Day

Healthy Kids Day is 10 a.m. to noon April 12. Healthy Kids Day is a YMCA initiative to improve our children’s health and well-being. From a bounce house to family wallyball and cornhole, there are activities for everyone in the family to enjoy. Hula hoop and limbo contests, dancing to the DJ, gym games, and more round out the morning. This event kicks off the Portage Township YMCA’s week long membership drive.

Outdoor T-ball/Baseball League

Outdoor T-ball/Baseball League will be from May 5 to June 21 at Real Life Community Church in Portage. Weekday practices with games played on Saturday mornings. Registration ends April 26.
