VALPARAISO | It took a few months, but the pathway along the Vale Park Way between Campbell and Valparaiso streets now belongs to the city's Parks Department.

The park board approved the transfer of the pathway and the adjoining property, not including the right of way for the road, from Valparaiso's Redevelopment Commission on Tuesday. The commission approved the transfer in February, but Parks Director John Seibert said the parks department just wanted to make sure all the legal requirements were dealt with properly.

The delay hasn't affected the maintenance of the pathway, which has been handled by the parks department since the pathway was completed. The parks take care of snow removal and trash pickup and overall maintenance of the 20 acres adjoining the road. The action had to be completed by the end of the year.

In other business, it was reported that the late spate of mild weather in November helped the golf courses go from being slightly behind the 2011 income to being slightly ahead. The biggest boon was at Creekside Golf Course, where the department had projected $8,000 in revenue for the month but actually received more than $16,000. Overall, golf revenue was about $2,300 ahead of 2011 through November.

Golf course General Manager Rich Frey told the board the introduction of beer sales at Forest Park Golf Course was successful. He had estimated $30,000 in revenue from the new program and total sales through November were about $31,500.

Seibert said the Central Park Plaza has met expectations that it would be self-supporting. The park generated more than $100,000 in revenue this year from rentals and the naming rights for the amphitheater. Seibert said that was about equal to the cost of operating it and maintaining the park.
