UNION TOWNSHIP | The Union Volunteer Fire Department Board of Directors reappointed Tim Beach as the department's fire chief.

His appointment became effective July 11.

Beach replaces former chief Jaime Garcia, who is no longer with the department.

This is not a new role for Beach. He previously served as the chief on the department. Beach, 37, has been a member of the department for 19 years. Beach has served as an Ogden Dunes police officer for the past eight years.

"While it’s disappointing to learn that so many things have been neglected in-house, I speak on behalf of the department that at no such time was the quality of our service ever a question to the members of our community," Beach said. "We have always been there for the community and we will continue to do so — now stronger than ever."

Beach said his goals are to ready the department for township residents and to train firefighters to the best of their abilities.

Beach said they are also working on getting their our website back up and running, so that members of the community will be able to go to the web page and to view upcoming events in Union Township, learn about the firefighters and check out apparatus, including two newly acquired fire trucks.
