UNION TOWNSHIP | A fire Wednesday morning destroyed a Union Township home.
Firefighters were called shortly before 8:30 a.m. to a home on Sassafras Drive at Robyn Road in the Salt Creek Commons subdivision.
Union Township Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Tim Beach said no one was at home when the fire started, and no injuries were reported while fighting the fire.
Beach said a dog had been tied up in the yard of the home. It was retrieved by Porter County Animal Control and was not injured.
Several fire departments responded to the fire. Two aerial trucks were used to douse the fire.
Beach said the cause of the fire is not known. Investigators will be at the site on Thursday to try to determine the cause.
