UNION TOWNSHIP | A few young people suffered what appeared to be minor injuries Wednesday afternoon after a Union Township School Corp. bus failed to yield to a pickup truck and a collision resulted, according to Porter County police.

The bus was eastbound on County Road 400 North when it was struck just before 3 p.m. by a red pickup truck driven by a 17-year-old girl, Porter County police Sgt. Larry LaFlower said.

The bus had a stop sign at the intersection and the truck, which was northbound on County Road 475 West, did not, LaFlower said.

The driver of the truck and her 12-year-old male passenger complained of pain and were being treated at the scene, LaFlower said. A 16-year-old girl on the bus also complained of pain.

The bus was carrying 14 students from Wheeler High School and Middle School, LaFlower said.

The truck sustained substantial damage.
