UNION TOWNSHIP | The Union Township School Board is accepting applications to fill a vacancy left by the resignation of Michael Jessen last week.

Jessen submitted his resignation from the board effective immediately to focus his attention on his run for Porter County Council, according to Union Township Schools Superintendent John Hunter.

Hunter said Jessen has served the community well the last eight years as a member of the School Board.

The board is accepting applications until June 25 for those wishing to be considered for an appointment to the board. Those interested should send a letter of interest, plus a completed non-certified application, to Hunter's attention. Applications are available on the district's website at  www.union.k12.in.us
