The first loan to be granted in Lake county under the provision of the Federal Home Owners Loan act will be signed today in the Hammond office of J. Clinn Ellyson. The loan will go to the Mulligans for their home at Eighth and Wisconsin in Hobart.

Enrollment at Valparaiso High School this year is 551 or 10 less than last year Supt. Roy B. Julian announced. Enrollment in other departments is Junior high 225; Central grades 205; Gardner 212; Columbia 191; Banta 148.

The building committee of the Hammond Chamber of Commerce has recommended that the 55-year-old Hammond Superior Courthouse at Hohman Avenue and Rimbach Street be sold and a new building be put up on a different site.

Donation of a new velour act curtain and numerous drapery panels for dressing the stage of Memorial Opera House in Valparaiso was announced by Marshall Weinstein, chairman of the Community Theater Guild. Donor was Sievers Drug company.

Awarding of the general contract, plumbing and electrical contracts for the new Munster junior high school is expected to be done by the board of school trustees Monday.

Bids for rolling and folding bleachers for stage at Boucher gym were opened at a meeting of the Valparaiso Community School Board. The low bid was $2,254 and the high bid was $4,918. Half of the cost of the bleachers will be paid for by the school city and the other half by the Valpo High School athletic department.
