SAUK VILLAGE | A Cook County judge Wednesday sentenced a man convicted of sexually assaulting and killing a Sauk Village teen in 2008 to 75 years in prison.
Timothy Easley, 24, of Sauk Village, was convicted Jan. 9 of first-degree murder and aggravated criminal sexual assault, according to a news release from the Cook County state's attorney's office.
Brashai Griffin, 15, was last seen leaving her Sauk Village house April 2, 2008, to meet Easley, who she had previously dated. She told friends she was going to meet Easley at night, according to the release.
Griffin's mother arrived at their house at 10:30 p.m. and called police when she saw her daughter wasn't home.
Griffin's body was found April 4, 2008, by a search team. The body was naked and submerged in Plum Creek in a wooded area near 223rd Street and Torrence Avenue in Sauk Village. She had been strangled, police said.
Sauk Village police previously said they thought Griffin was killed after refusing to have sex with Easley, who was 18 at the time of the killing.
Easley and Griffin attended Bloom Trail High School in Chicago Heights.
Investigators previously had said that DNA would be key in the case. According to the release, DNA taken from Griffin during an autopsy tied Easley to the killing.
Cook County Judge Luciano Panici issued the 75-year sentence.
