A water boil advisory has been issued by the Schererville Water Department effective immediately and until further notice for any residence or business located south of U.S. 30 to 83rd Place and from the Merrillville town border west to and including the Springdale and Brandonwood subdivisions.
The advisory was issued at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
A representative from the Schererville Public Works Department advised that residents in this area "hard boil" any water for at least 15 minutes before it is used for human or pet consumption, explaining the advisory was made "only as a precautionary measure" and the Schererville Water Department will inform residents when the advisory has been lifted.
Because of the water being shut off earlier Wednesday for routine maintenance, a representative from the Schererville Board of Works said it is customary to advise residents to boil water during the initial time period as the water is restored. This is a precaution while the town makes sure the purification system is fully functioning.
Any questions and concerns should be directed to the Public Works Department at (219) 322-6688 or by e-mail at publicworks@schererville.org.
