At Wheeler High

The second annual WHS breast cancer walk is scheduled Sunday. If you would like to participate, pledge forms are available from the guidance office.

Homecoming tickets are on sale during lunch periods at a cost of $25 per couple and $15 per single. The homecoming dance is scheduled 7 to 11 p.m. October 18. Students may support the food pantries of Porter County by bringing canned foods to the homecoming game on Oct. 17. Collection containers will be at the gate.

Any student interested in attending "A Day in the Life of a Nurse" event should go to the guidance office and complete an application.

Turkey points

The Union Township holiday program for families in need is looking for turkey points from Wise Way. If you have any to spare, drop them off at one of the Union Township schools.

Bulbs, Bulbs, Bulbs class at Taltree

Spring flowering bulbs comprise more than just tulips and daffodils. Grape hyacinths, flowering onions and foxtail lilies can be planted now for a breathtaking springtime party of color. A colorful slide presentation, handouts and resources will be included in the presentation that will cover the types of tulips that are most likely to return year after year, bulbs that deer don't like, and minor bulbs that provide a perfect backdrop for the major players.

This program will be presented by instructor Jean Starr, and it will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Oct. 18 in the Taltree Arboretum classroom located at 71 N. County Road 500 West. Cost: Members $12 and non-members $15. For more information, call (219) 462-0025.
