HARVEY | Police announced Wednesday the arrest of twin brothers who are accused of killing a 20-year-old Harvey man in September.
Jermaine Carter, 20, was found shot to death Sept. 24 outside his house in the 14700 block of Leavitt Avenue.
The twins robbed Carter of an undisclosed amount of money before shooting him, said Sandra Alvarado, a spokeswoman for the Harvey Police Department. Carter knew of the suspects but wasn't friends with them, she said.
Jermel McCray, 18, was arrested Dec. 6 and charged with first-degree murder, police said. His twin, Jermon McCray, was arrested Monday and was charged with first-degree murder.
The twins, of Dixmoor, also were charged with armed robbery. They are being held on a $2 million bond each.
The McCrays also are suspects in a separate out-of-state homicide, but police didn't specify in which state the homicide took place.
The announcement of the arrests comes as the Harvey Police Department says it is cracking down on homicides to "bring justice to these families that suffered," Alvarado said.
During Tuesday's State of the Union address, President Barack Obama mentioned Chicago's homicides as a call for gun control as the parents of a Chicago teen who was killed last month sat next to first lady Michelle Obama.
