Marrow drive | South Holland
The South Suburban College Office of Student Life & Leadership will host a National Bone Marrow Donor Program
from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 13 in the Cafeteria. This event is intended to raise awareness about the need for bone marrow donors especially in the black community, as well as inform people about how to become a bone marrow donor. Poker tournament | Frankfort, Ill.
SouthSTAR Services will host its sixth Texas Hold 'em Poker Tournament Feb. 24 at 23320 S. Lagrange Road. The doors open at 11:30 a.m. and the tournament will begin at 12:30 p.m. The cost for pre-registered players is $100 and the cost for players at the door is $125. The tournament will include a raffle for a plasma TV, 50/50 Raffle, a buffet, beverages, prizes and viewing of sports events. Based on participation of 200 or more players, there will be $10,000 in prizes. Sponsorship opportunities are available. SouthSTAR Services, a nonprofit organization in Chicago Heights, provides job training, employment, community living, and support services to more than 300 individuals with development disabilities.

Northwest Indiana Habitat for Humanity invites the public to shop Feb. 10 through 16 at the ReStore, 6114 W. Ridge Road, just east of Colfax and Ridge Road. Take part in discounts up to 50 percent off, enter a drawing for giveaways and enjoy refreshments. Sale items can include appliances to furniture, cabinets and windows and everything in-between. The ReStore is a source for quality used construction and surplus building materials and gently used home furnishings. There are 60 Habitat for Humanity ReStores across the United States.
