BLUES, BREWS & BBQ | Crown Point

Crown Point Rotary Club will host its fourth annual Blues, Brews, & BBQ event from 3 to 11 p.m. Oct. 4 at the Lake County Fairgrounds, 889 S. Court St. Performances by Jo, Jo, & The Blues Train, Funky Mojo Daddy, Deb Seitz Band (f.k.a. Blues Fever), and Steepwater in addition to a beer and cigar garden, barbecue, and bean bag tournament. Proceeds will benefit the Rotary mission, Service Above Self, including international and local projects such as Shoes & Coats for Kids, Christmas in September, Polio Plus, disaster relief efforts and student scholarships.

JOURNEYS & QUESTS | Cedar Lake

Children in kindergarten and older will enjoy stories and a craft about adventures and journeys at 4 p.m. today at the Lake County Public Library's Cedar Lake branch, 10010 W. 133rd Ave. Participants will read "The Journey of Oliver K. Woodman," the children's selection this month for Books to Bridge the Region.

CHEESE SPREAD | Northwest Indiana

Beta Xi chapter of Psi Iota Xi Sorority will be making its popular cheese spread Oct. 3. Donations from this annual fundraiser goes towards efforts in Speech & Hearing, Art, Music and Literature. Cost is $6.

MAKE IT & TAKE IT | Schererville

Schererville Garden Club Members will help children in kindergarten and older decorate pumpkins for Halloween from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 4 at the Lake County Public Library's Dyer-Schererville branch, 1001 W. U.S. 30. All materials will be provided and participants can arrive anytime during this program.

SCAVENGER HUNT | Crown Point

Indiana Ghost Trackers is hosting a Haunted Scavenger Hunt for those 21 and older at 7 p.m. Oct. 4 at Antiques and Unique Treasures, 208 S. Main St. This hunt will take participants to many areas throughout Lake and Porter Counties to capture spirits, solve puzzles and have fun. Arrive between 6 and 7 p.m. to sign up, receive a list of things to do, places to go and things to collect. Bring a camera (cell phones work great) and come with a team or join up with a group once you arrive. Cost is $10.

DIRTY DANCING | Chicago

Lowell Parks and Recreation Department has several seats available for its luxury coach bus trip to see the musical "Dirty Dancing" at 2 p.m. Oct. 5 at the Cadillac Palace Theatre in Chicago. Bus will leave Lowell Town Hall at noon. Cost for show ticket and transportation is $128.

RETIREES LUNCH | Merrillville

USS Gary Sheet $ Tin Mill Retirees will meet for its annual fall luncheon at noon today at the Croatian Hall, 8550 Taft St. Doors open at 11 and ticket sales start at 11:30. Tickets are $13 for a buffet lunch. Clinic will offer flu shots, is available, so bring your insurance or Medicare card.

Members come together for evening meetings and activities to build friendships, learn from one another, and share the joys and triumphs of motherhood. AMVETS Post 15 Auxiliary is hosting a fish fry from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the post home, 13335 Morse St. Order Alaskan pollack for $6.50, butterfly shrimp for $8.50 or a combo plate for $7.50. Dinners include cole slaw or cottage cheese, potato, roll and butter. Children's portions available and carry-outs are 50 cents extra. Proceeds will fund auxiliary projects and charities.

American Legion Post 20 Sons of the Legion will be holding its annual Turkey Shoot from noon to 4 p.m. Oct, 4, 11, 18, 25 and Nov. 1 at 1401 N. Main St. Food and refreshments will be available. Prizes are hams, turkeys, pork loins or bacon.

APPLE FEST | Long Grove

Schererville Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor a bus trip Oct. 4 to the Long Grove Apple Festival. Visit craft shops, Christmas shop, Apple Haus and restaurants. St. John Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 717, its ladies auxiliary and its mens auxiliary will host monthly fish fries from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 3 and the first Friday of each month at the post, 10400 W. 93rd Ave. Perch, shrimp, crab cakes and combo dinners include fries, cole slaw or cottage cheese, bread and coffee or tea. Crown Point Volunteer Fire Department and its Ladies Auxiliary will present its annual Fire Prevention Open House from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 5 at the Crown Point Fire Station, 126 N. East St. This year's theme is "Prevent Home Fires" and hot dogs, chips, popcorn, and desserts will be available to the public. Coloring contest winners will be announced and receive gifts. All coloring contest entries will be displayed. Visit with the firefighters, try on their gear and take a look inside the fire trucks. The EDITH Trailer (Exit Drill in the House) will be available for tours. There will also be a live vehicle extrication demonstration and a home fire extinguisher demonstration. Enjoy hands-on activities, demonstrations, displays, and door prizes. Bring a camera.

SUPPORT GROUP | Munster

Support group meetings for flood victims will continue to be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursdays at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church, 8601 Harrison Ave. Enter through Door K on the south side of the building. Meetings will be facilitated by licensed social workers.
