Our biggest paper of the year will come your way this week in what can be called the Super Bowl of delivery.

Our Thanksgiving paper will weigh upwards of 5 pounds and will start appearing by mid-morning Wednesday at single-copy outlets including grocery stores and convenience stores throughout the Region.

That paper is called a “Bulldog,” or early edition, and it offers single-copy buyers the first glance at news and shopping bargains.

Our Thanksgiving paper will be an update of the Bulldog and it will arrive at homes late Wednesday or early Thursday. Each will have multiple sections, including our new 219 entertainment section and dozens of inserts with bargains.

Making that delivery will be 320 carriers, perhaps your neighbors or family and friends, who will take multiple trips as they deliver The Times and all of the other papers coming into the Region.

“The vast majority of the carriers we have are really good, hard-working people, who are really dedicated working seven days a week in all kinds of weather,” said Scott Kinter, regional circulation director.

Kinter joined us last year before Thanksgiving and inherited a delivery challenge as our carrier force was just getting used to delivering all of the Chicago papers and The New York Times, Wall Street Journal and USA Today, along with others.

Routes sometimes were incomplete, homes were missed and some readers decided they didn’t want a paper any longer.

Delivery has improved dramatically, and our complaints have decreased by 95 percent from last year. This is a great story to share at Thanksgiving when it takes a strong carrier force to handle the large papers.

Included in our home delivery now is LaPorte County. We’re pleased to mix in LaPorte news, sports and business coverage as we cover the entire Region.

Enjoy the biggest paper of the year, and don’t miss the ThanksGIVEaway contest, back for another year.

ThanksGIVEaway is a contest for readers of Lee Enterprises’ papers, including The Times. There’s a grand prize of $5,000 in the contest that runs through Dec. 4.

There also are three $100 Strack & Van Til gift cards for Times readers who are winners in the contest.

Refer to the Bulldog and/or the Thanksgiving paper for entry details. Good luck.

If you’re interested in starting a subscription, you’ll find you can help The Salvation Army at this time of need. Any 13-week subscription will result in a $10 donation from us to The Salvation Army.

Safe travels this week. Enjoy Thanksgiving with your family and friends.
