Do you have a favorite photo taken this year, or several? If so, we have a contest for you.

Our Best of 2016 NWI Photo contest is off and running, and we invite you to share your best shots.

An entry form is attached to this column online. Just upload your photos to the form at nwi.com/photocontest.

All photos received will become part of the following galleries, which represent the categories in our first year-end photo contest:

  • Best photo taken in the Region
  • Best photo taken outside the Region
  • Best Indiana bicentennial year photo
  • Best Chicago Cubs victory photo
  • Best local sports photo

We’ll accept photos until Dec. 10, and then a panel of judges will determine five finalists in each category for online voting.

Online voting to determine the winners will begin Dec. 19 and run for a week.

Winning photos will be published in The Times and be considered for publication in the South Shore Convention & Visitors Authority promotional materials. The SSCVA is partnering in the contest.

Winners also will receive a poster of The Times’ front page featuring the Cubs’ World Series title.

Don’t hesitate to share vacation photos. They would be considered in the outside-the-Region category.

Good luck. And visit nwi.com/digital/photos occasionally to view photos submitted.

Nonprofit wish lists

Last year at this time, more than 50 nonprofit organizations shared their wish lists for readers looking to help.

We’ve started a new Holiday Wish List for this season, and we encourage charities, churches and organizations in need of specific donations to get on board.

An easy-to-use form is attached to this column online or visit nwi.com/charitywishlist. Simply provide details of what you need most at this time.

Are you on the board of directors of a nonprofit? Be sure the staff knows about this. Then, once a nonprofit is added, send out the link on social networks to attract attention.

This is a great way to help at a giving time of the year.
