There’s plenty to do in Northwest Indiana this summer, and a new app is your ticket to finding your way around.

The free app, “Summer on the Shore passport,” can be downloaded from the Apple Store or Google play. Once you have it, tap on the passport button to find all of the participating locations.

What comes next will be family fun exploring some of these places, restaurants, businesses and special events that stand out in the Region. You could win, too.

Summer on the Shore is a partnership between The Times Media Co. and the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority.

It’s all about getting around the Region and enjoying summer, and the app makes it easy by listing dozens of Summer on the Shore participants. Visit as many as you’d like and scan the QR code at each location.

Visit at least six participants, and you’ll be eligible in a drawing for a 2017 Subaru Forester from Castle Subaru.

That drawing will be held Sept. 20, so you have plenty of time to visit Summer on the Shore participants in Lake, Porter and LaPorte counties.

Enjoy this and the rest of your summer. For more information on Summer on the Shore visit sspassport.com.

Student interns

Student interns are gaining experience this summer all around the Region, and we’ve come up with a way to recognize them and the businesses that hire them.

In partnership with the Center of Workforce Innovations in Valparaiso, we’re reaching out to interns and companies to send in photos and tell us about their experience.

Students and employers can easily participate by filling out a form available online at https://www.nwitimes.com/forms/summer_internship/

If you know an intern, please forward that link. An ongoing gallery of Region interns is attached to this column at nwi.com.

Region students gaining experience in other parts of the country are eligible, too.

Congratulations to student interns, who will return to classes with great knowledge from summer experiences.
