When did schools become a business instead of being a place for children to feel safe and find adult mentors?
In the past 10 years, schools have gone from a place where students can go to a teacher for advice about a crush, or as a parental figure when a biological one was absent, to a place where a teacher is a dollar sign. If your number is too high or your 30-year track record just isn't enough anymore, it's see ya later.
Who decides the value of a person when they have made a lifelong impact on so many people? And who would ever want to do that ?
It's the people who spend their free time with classroom doors open and greet you with a hug, who don't care how much they are making or about retiring on time. So why are these the exact same people who are getting abused?
Though we can all agree the state isn't in the best education situation, getting rid of the people who actually care about making it better isn't the best or smartest solution,
Having great eductors who care is how test scores go up, the graduation rate rises and the crime rate drops. Putting students in a room for eight hours a day with a teacher who doesn't want to be there does absolutely nothing. No one learns no one has fun, and no one walks away wanting to come back.
Think about where you are putting your kids. Meet the teachers and get to know them. Every student should have the opportunity to graduate with at least one teacher they can call a friend.
