Families move to Dyer for a variety of reasons. Safety, hometown environment and great schools are just a few.
Dyer has the finest police and fire departments in Indiana. Recently, two officers were sworn in to replace officers. The team of Police Chief Dave Hein and Fire Chief Thad Stutler both have roots in Dyer. Their pride in town is evident in the team they have amassed to protect the citizens. The Redevelopment Commission has given their support for a new pumper for the Fire Department.
The Dyer Park Department is improving existing parks and working on the jewel of Dyer, Central Park. The 84-acre park is located on Calumet Avenue. The Dyer Park Department and a developer joined forces to complete a boulevard into the park. The parkway welcomes commercial development on Calumet Avenue. Dyer Public Works also added an access road off of Calumet, thanks to collaboration with Tom Rueth.
Summerfest is an annual celebration of Dyer occurring in early summer. Children love the rides, and adults enjoy the community sharing events during the day. Everyone enjoys the fireworks show at the conclusion of the four-day event.
Lake Central School Corp. is replacing Protsman Elementary in Dyer. Being good neighbors, the school amended plans to increase the storm water storage. The area has been subjected to frequent flooding. Added storage is under the new parking lot at the school.
The 2012 street project is centered in Pheasant Hills. A One Dig strategy is being implemented to allow citizens access to their homes as quickly and safely as possible.
New businesses find a welcome environment in Dyer. The Dyer Chamber of Commerce supports newcomers. New signage will also provide a welcome to all very soon.
Dyer has dedicated employees who have worked with department heads to provide continued excellent service despite fewer tax dollars. Our citizens appreciate all the services Dyer provides. As always, citizen communication is the key to better services.
Citizens are an integral to make Dyer a wonderful community. The many people who interview for boards and commissions are a positive sign that Dyer is a perfect place for all.
