Nestled among open fields and a quaint shopping district is the friendly town of Kouts.

Located just 10 miles south of Valparaiso along Ind. 49, this charming town is using its potential for growth.

Many changes for 2013 are expected to enhance the town's architecture and landscape.

The Kouts Economic Development Commission's continued facade improvement grant program will revive the older buildings in town while preserving their historical flair.

Equally important is the possible land purchase in town that would be donated for an additional town park.

Annexation plans for an area west of town are also on the agenda. This would allow for growth within the industrial community.

The town's utilities also will be included in the enhancement project. Plans for upgrads in the town's water treatment plant will occur in the months ahead, while an upcoming land purchase will give the opportunity for the installation of a new town well.

It appears that 2013 will prove to be a prosperous year for Kouts economically while refining the uniqueness of the small-town charm it possesses.
