A fact: 1 in 5 American children go hungry every day. Millions of American children live in poverty at no fault of their own. The GOP cuts food stamps to starving families, the elderly and disabled. Food pantries are not meeting the high demand, and many are turning people away.
GOP Sen. Rand Paul said he is against giving an extension of unemployment benefits because it encourages the recipients to not find work. Nonsense!
In America there are three times more unemployed than available jobs. Also, for a person to receive an unemployment check, the recipient must prove they have applied for three to five jobs the previous week.
Cutting food stamps and unemployment benefits and companies not paying a livable wage in this still recovering economy will and has hurt children in poverty.
A country is judged by how it treats its poor and children.
