It's been a long time coming. Gary/Chicago International Airport should be up and running today.
The Times has informed readers over the years of the progress and always some problem pops up that wasn't addressed at the start. The bridge, overpass, tracks and now underground sewers need to be stronger, and the runway is still being talked about.
Planning this project was done poorly. The state board need to check records on spending. Bringing in an advertiser for an unfinished airport was a waste.
Four years have passed with a broken economy. Northwest Indiana needs this airport to provide hundreds of jobs, not just for seven board members and soon 11.
