Soon it will again be time to elect the president, in our obsolete method.
We will vote on a Tuesday because that was convenient for farmers, when we were an agricultural, rural country. Saturday or Sunday would be much better now because most people are not working on those days.
Then we will use the electoral college method to elect the president. States with larger populations get more electoral votes. This makes it possible for someone who is losing the popular vote to still be elected president. True democracy calls for direct votes to be counted. We need to abolish the electoral college system.
Finally, we really need to make it easier for people to vote. In this technological age, there is no excuse for forcing people to go to polling places. We should be able to vote at home, by phone or computer. Every single vote should count.
