Many claim the stock market will not perform well because President Barack Obama was re-elected. Then why did the market gain 100 percent in the last 3 1/2 years of Obama's first term?
Actually, it had little to do with Obama's policies. It was primarily the markets' cyclical rebound from the Great Recession in 2008. Economic cycles and other factors are far more powerful than any one president's power to control them.
One of the most important things a president can do is to be a strong and effective leader. Unfortunately, that was not Obama's strong suit in his first term. Unencumbered by re-election in his second term and every president's desire to leave a favorable legacy, I suspect there will be far less political acrimony and more cooperation in his second term.
Let's unite as Americans and focus on improving our own lives. That, along with the power of free enterprise, will do more to improve our economy than any one man.
