I read the article about the Northwoods business owner wanting to donate money for fireworks at Christmas in the Park. I thought this was generous and what was the big deal. The part that stuck with me was how certain St. John officials were making it an issue.
I don't know their rules, and I don't even live in St. John; I live in neighboring Dyer. I was very disappointed in the council member who said he would support the revised attempt if he didn't have to hear about the Lake Hills Haunted House and the Christmas event any more.
I am a father of 3 girls and an infant son. We go to the Christmas in the Park with everyone and grandparents every year, and my girls and I have just been blown away with the Haunted House, by far the best I've ever been to! I'm sure my daughters would agree. Every year they are so scared that the employees in front enjoy us and remember us because of my daughters screaming nonstop!
Yes, we are in some very hard economic times, but as a parent part of my job is to spend time with my children and do activities with them and enjoy each other's company without breaking the bank. These two events do more for the community and all our families than half the jaw-boning they get done at some of these meetings. A few diversionary activities go a long way to keep every ones spirits up and be thankful for the simple things in life that we can control, like Santa Claus and scary haunted houses.
To all those involved in these events, my family and I thank you for the brief break from reality and the quality time with friends and family.
