On my way home from work, I saw what I thought was a dead animal in the road near the intersection of Mineral Springs Road and U.S. 12 in Porter. I thought I would move the body out of the road.
When I stopped, I was horrified to discover it was a raccoon that had one of his paws caught in a trap. The raccoon had tried to chew its foot off but had not been successful. Instead, this poor creature had drug his or her exhausted body into the road only to be hit by a car.
More horrifying was that this precious creature was still alive. Not willing to let this poor baby suffer any longer, I did what I could.
I don't know what kind of sick piece of garbage would use such a trap, but I hope there is a special place for them to burn in eternity.
Please write the Indiana Department of Natural Resources and your elected officials and ask them to outlaw such traps.
