The U.S. Postal Services is stopping Saturday mail deliveries because of their financial shortcomings.
What I see in several towns is that every post office has its parking area packed with a fleet of trucks and vans. I can recall when the mail-delivery person would walk, brown pouch over his shoulders, to everyone's front door, where the mailbox was located. If the pouch became too heavy, he would resort to a "golf bag cart " on the sidewalk.
I fully understand that a van is necessary for rural routes. Surely today's men and women can accomplish the job, as those before them did.
I am not privileged to numbers the postal service is burdened with for the expense of those vans, including insurance and maintainenance.
