Blame media, not politicians, for today's economic troubles

February 01, 2012 12:00 am

All hail the media!

Instead of holding them accountable, we behold them.

Take the Jan. 26 editorial. Addressing the State of the Union address, it headlines with, "We are the United states - not divided." Sensible with one tiny irritation. It echos Obama's main message since 2008! How is this their enlightenment I should aver to?

On tax reform, how many times has he harped on raising taxes on millionaires? Often, since 2009.

On safety net, he repeats that it shouldn't be compromised.

I concede on the third topic of energy, on having a more transitional approach to clean energy. But even there, he for example set up standards for all cars to average 35 mph by 2016. This happened in 2009.

Perhaps today's economic troubles stem less from politicians than control-wielding news outlets. TV, Internet, cable, radio, newspaper, politician, etc. Who has the biggest ego?
