I first met Laura Shurr Blaney during the south county landfill debate years ago. As a journalist at the time, I recognized Laura’s attention to detail, thoughtful questioning, and thoroughness in studying the complex issues.

After the landfill issue was resolved, Laura kept working for solutions to solid waste problems and advocated for recycling collection in the unincorporated areas. Later, after Laura joined the Porter County Council, she continued to work with serious diligence, always in a bipartisan manner and in the best interests of the county.

Her efforts on behalf of the Animal Shelter, the Memorial Opera House, emergency services and other quality of life issues have been exemplary.

Porter County needs the intelligence, experience and cooperative approach that Laura will bring to the commissioners’ office. A vote for Laura Shurr Blaney for District 1 county commissioner is a vote for strong, effective local government.
