In a large sense, the word "entitlement" is a propaganda strategy of the financial and insurance industries to belittle the efforts of many who have wished to institute humane recourse to life's various challenges. Indeed, our own Constitution encourages the promotion of the general welfare; welfare, here, meaning well-being and social support for all citizens.
I resent that the social benefits I fought for (four-year veteran) and worked for through my lifetime would be called entitlements. Politicians and others who use this demeaning term should go down in flames. Let us insist on the use of "benefits" or "government benefits" when others address our various hard-won constitutionally approved methods of securing our futures.
