After reading Bill Krueger’s letter (“Big Business should help fund Social Security,” Feb. 1), I can only wonder where he gets his “facts."
First of all, employees do not pay 8.25 percent to Social Security. Employees (including CEOs) pay 6.2 percent on the first $110,100 of salary and nothing after that. They also pay 1.45 percent of all salary to Medicare. Additionally, beginning in 2014, CEOs will be paying higher rates to help pay for Obamacare.
Second, employers pay a matching 6.2 percent to Social Security on behalf of each employee and 1.45 percent of all salary to Medicare on behalf of each employee at no cost to employees.
I don't know why Bill is under the false impression that CEOs and businesses don’t pay Social Security and Medicare taxes and that somehow employees are paying more than they actually are, but his facts are dead wrong.
