Companies, not government, should train employees

Many companies are complaining about not being able to hire qualified workers. A lot of them have no one to blame but themselves.

More than 30 years ago, too many companies decided the apprenticeship program wasn't needed to the extent it had been and reduced the programs. Skilled tradesmen, machinists, electricians and many other trades are needed if engineers and designers are to see the fruits of their learning. An apprenticeship program requires four to five years of schooling and on the job training before you become a qualified journeyman.

The apprenticeship program was instrumental in making this country the economic powerhouse it is today. Companies would be smarter accelerating the apprenticeship program rather than think the government work training program, of six months to a year, will give them the qualified worker they are looking for in the long run.
