November is COPD Awareness Month. Cardio obstructive pulmonary disorder is the third leading cause of death, surpassing the predictions by reaching that magnitude far earlier than the estimated date of 2020.

COPD is more than just a disease from smoking. It has many different phenotypes, which is why it presents differently between patients.

In 1963 doctors discovered a genetic form of COPD called Alpha 1 Antitrypsin Deficiency. Understanding COPD starts with the understanding of Alpha 1 Antitrypsin Deficiency.
