Whose welfare are our elected government officials providing for?

What don't the president, Congress and the Supreme Court understand about the Constitution?

The Constitution states, “The Congress shall have the power to lay and collect taxes, duties, imposts and excises to pay the debt and provide for the common defense and general welfare of the United States; but all duties, imposts and excises shall be uniform throughout the United States.”

Uniform means always consistent in conduct or opinion; conforming to one rule, being in agreement, free from elements making for active quarreling or conflict resulting from discord among persons or factions, or strife (bitter sometimes violent conflict or dissension).

But when our government officials decide to exclude themselves from the very duties they impose upon we the people, then could we possibly be on the same road of discord that the French ventured on in 1789?
