I just heard another two shops have closed along Crown Point's square. I fear for our city proper as it seems all attention and money are going northeast of it.

It needs help now before it's too late.

Valparaiso's officials rose to help their downtown and now have an area that draws crowds to their benefit. It serves its community well with a band shell, splash pad, benches and landscaped walkways -- an area for celebrations, markets and relaxation. It draws people in to shop and eat in town.

We have such an area waiting to be developed to help us just west of the square and east of the new junior high. It certainly would be a boon for our struggling downtown. Wake up, officials, before it's too late. Our square needs help now.

Long ago this area of development was mentioned in the paper. I've not read anything of late. Where are these plans? Help. Save our downtown square.
