The Oct. 2 story that reported the Porter County Sheriff's Department was seeking animal cruelty charges against a father who fatally attacked a dog after the dog had bitten the man's 6-year old child in the face left me dumbfounded.

Rather than bringing charges against the child's father, the sheriff's department should have brought child endangerment charges against the dog owner!

This is what should have happened: Porter Regional Hospital should have notified the sheriff's department of the biting. The police should have collected the dog immediately and euthanized it.
