I am writing to express my concern over the recent proposal from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services that would cut Medicare's payments for dialysis by 9.4 percent.
I worry about the impact this cut will have on the 415,000 Americans who need dialysis to live (with 85 percent of these patients relying on Medicare to pay for this treatment). I urge Congress to intervene.
I am concerned this cut will force some facilities to close and that other facilities will eliminate patient-focused programs, services and benefits that improve patients' health and quality of life.
I urge you to contact CMS about making sure Medicare payments appropriately cover the cost of providing these life-sustaining treatments and maintain access to quality dialysis care.
Thank you for your consideration of this important issue.
